LiveJournal
LiveJournal.com originally started as blogging platform, but evolved into offering social networking features like profile pages, links to friends, blogs/journals, etc.
Navigation
The navigation allows members to quickly have access to their journal, profile page, list of friends, communities, scrapbook, and ways to explore the network.
Profile Pages
The profile pages are very basic – with contact information, list of friends, interests, groups, location info, etc. Each of the words entered into these sections are hyperlinks that connect members together. For example, the member above listed “foreign films” as one of his interests. This is a hyperlink that connects him with over 200 hundred other members who used that exact phrase in their profile page.
Journal
The journal area is a blog where members post their thoughts, pictures, artwork and/or videos for the day. These pages can be themed and customized by each member.
Each of these posts (or journal entries) can be entered through instant messaging, texting from a cell phone, voice post by leaving a message on a voice system, or by typing in an entry at LiveJournal directly.
Scrapbook
The scrapbook area is mainly for members to post and manage their personal picture galleries. These can be public or private.
Communities
The community area allows members to join and check out groups on LifeJournal that are dedicated to a particular topic. This can help members find and meet new friends online that have the same hobby.
