Hi5

Comscore ranked Hi5 as the third most popular social networking site in the world (2007). Countries that heavily use Hi5 include Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Thailand, and the Dominican Republic.

According to their press department, they claim to have more than 80 million members from over 200 nations – including many Latin American, European, and Asian countries. They are based out of San Francisco.

They have over 35 million users a month, and about 58% of their members are under 35 years old.  Their site is made available in about 17 different languages – including Chinese, Russian, Greek, and a Spanish dialect from Argentina. They are considered the number one site for the Spanish-language community.

CrunchBase reports: “Like MySpace Music, Hi5 allows you to register your band and start sharing your music with the world. Bands can only have one song in their streaming playlist at a time, unlike MySpace, which lets bands have up to four streaming songs. Hi5 has a great feature that lets users add any streaming song from a band’s page to their own Hi5 playlist.”

Hi5 allows members to easily add applications (a la Facebook) to profile pages.  In fact, hi5 recently announced that its application suite is based on OpenSocial so that it’s easy for developers to apply their apps for any social network that adopts a similar framework. There are currently 117 applications as of February 2008.

Demographics
Hi5 averages about 2.5 million unique visitors per month. Site visitors come from a variety of countries; including: Thailand, Mexico, United States, Peru, and Portugal.
