Care2
Care2 is a social networking site dedicated to a variety of activist causes; including: green living, health, and human rights. Their mission is to help make the world a better place by connecting people together who have similar passions about improving the world through activism.
Care2.com donates 10% of its revenue to environmental non-profit organizations and other activist-related campaigns. And each day, the site features a “Daily Action” to encourage members to take action on a particular issue – which could mean signing an online petition, making a donation, or helping spread a particular message.
The social networking features of Care2.com is similar to MySpace.com where members create their own profile, post pictures, blog posts, etc. However, since the network is based around activism – there are sections of each person’s profile which shows what petitions the member signed and any contributions they have made to a particular cause.
News
The news section is divided into the following sections: Environment, U.S Politics, World, Business, Green Lifestyle, Society & Culture, Animals, Health & Wellness, Science and Technology, and Offbeat. Each news story is submitted and voted on by members, so that the most popular news stories in each category ranks first.
Petitions
The petitions section provides members with a way to find petitions for causes that interest them. Members can also create their own petition and promote it to other members who have similar interests (based on the tags they’ve added on their profile pages).
Demographics
As of April 2008, the site has nearly 9 million members, and the unique visitor count per month is about 1 million. The majority of site visitors are from the United States.
