Boomj.com is a social network targeting Baby Boomers (people born between 1942 and 1953) and Generation Jones (people born between 1954 to 1965).
Boomj.com’s media kit says that 78 million Baby Boomers spent $2.3 trillion last year, and have $1 trillion of disposable income. It’s a huge market to tap into, and Boomj.com is there to bring networking and ecommerce together for this huge population.
The homepage features a variety of activities for members – this includes articles on health, travel, entertainment, and lifestyle issues. It also features videos, news and quick access to learn about various featured members.
The site features all the typical elements of a social network, along with chat rooms, forums, blogs, mail, and plenty of articles and news sections for members to stay informed on what’s happening – especially concerning political, social, and health issues related to Boomers.
The “Shop” button located in the global navigation sends members to an eCommerce platform so that users can buy DVDs, books and other merchandise. This online shop is distinct from the site – and was developed in partnership with National Lampoon. The only way for visitors of the shop to get back into the Boomj.com networking site is by clicking on the large button at the top of the page that says “Visit Boomj Community.”
