BeliefNet

Beliefnet.com is an online social network dedicated to spirituality. The site focuses on helping members learn more about each others’ spiritual beliefs and religions.  Articles and sections within the site cover everything from Hinduism and Zoroastrianism to atheism and Christianity.

The home page looks more like a news website than an online social network, and features spiritually-based articles, message boards, devotionals, videos, photos, links to blogs, and quizzes.

Members can customize their profile page with their own theme, and can post pictures, list their faith(s), occupations, relationship status, and provide information about themselves that they want to share with other members.

When a member first signs up, he or she may subscribe to blog and/or news feeds within their personal profile section.  This will encourage members to log in regularly to check the status on what other members are doing – or to keep tabs on what’s happening on their favorite blogs or news websites.

The site is not affiliated with any religious groups, and was purchased by the Fox Entertainment Group in December 2007.  The site has partnerships with Time magazine, Yahoo!, and Chicken Soup for the Soul.
